Systems tested for Scalability

Juggling the various combinations of processors, operating systems, and JVMs has turned into a big project for us which we never anticipated. It is complicated even before getting into the specific configurations of memory, IO, and disk storage. What this means for us is that we are focusing on demonstrating scalability for each system, but not attempting to make comparisons between systems. Each system is independently evaluated, and each test has its own results, but so far, we have achieved scaling on every platform we have been able to directly manage.

Scaling Test Platforms:

HP Proliant [Xeon] 16-core
RedHat Linux
Sun x86 HotSpot JVM

HP Integrity [Itanium] 32-core
HP-UX
HP-UX HotSpot JVM

Sun Sparc T2 8-core, 64-threads
Solaris
Sun Solaris JVM

Azul Systems 384-core
Azul Linux
Azul JVM (beta)

AMD Opteron ‘Barcelona’ 2x4 8-core
Red Hat Linux
Sun x86 HotSpot JVM [AMD]

HP Proliant [Opteron] 4x2 8-core
Red Hat Linux
Sun x86 HotSpot JVM [AMD]

HP Integrity [Itanium] 8-core
Red Hat Linux
BEA JRockit JVM

Intel Itanium2 4-core
Windows 2003 IA-64
BEA JRockit JVM

Intel Xeon 8-core
CentOS Linux
Sun x86 HotSpot JVM
